"My Crusader 8.1 MPI gas engines have a fuel/water separator due to the intoduction of ethanol into the fuel supply (they are actually Racor Parker filters). According to Cusader's owners manual these should be drained on a daily basis in extremely humid weather to get rid of any water.

The same sheet says that the filter needs to be "primed" whenever it is emptied by removing the canister with the bowl attached using a strap on wrench and then filling the canister with freash fuel and replace it. Therefor in humid weather this this has to be done on a daily basis or whenever you use the boat.

Instead of priming it that way, has anyone ever tried allowing the engine to prime them with the Racor filters empty of fuel, does it work?

Thanks,
Dick"

if they have a return line back to the tank, you can try that by just turning the key on to let the pump run those couple seconds. may have to repeat a few times to fill it.

If it is one of those 'returnless' systems - don't know.

you can always try it - worst case is you have to get the air out and prime it 'by the book'."
