Water pump wonbt pickup ear muffs attached to water hose

2003 merc cruiser wont pick-up

2003 merc cruiser wont pick-up ear muffs but when I try it in the water it runs great. Any pointers!

Oh and by the way do you have

Oh and by the way do you have a water pump impeller attached to the front of your engine?

It should look like a second altenator or second power steering pump.

If so it gets its water from the bottom of the boat with a thru hull pick up.
