Thermostat for 1983 70hp Johnson

I went to my local Johnson dea

I went to my local Johnson dealer for a thermostat and I think he gave me the wrong one. The part number he gave me was P/N 396987. Is this correct and if not can I still use it?

Is this thermostat the right one then Joe? The original thermostat is metal and this one is plastic.
