I have a 55hp chrysler outboar

I have a 55hp chrysler outboard model number 558he. I have spark at the motor but it won't start also the positive terminal at the battery gets red hot i am guessing something is crossed in the wiring but have no clue where to start any ideas

Chrysler had a starting regiment you had to follow or they would not start.

First pull out the silver button on the pivot of the control arm (Neutral throttle). Advance the throttle to the stop.

Pump the primer bulb till firm. Hook up the water!


Spin the engine with switch and -while spinning --push in on the key. This closes the choke. When it starts, release the key but be ready to push in for momentary choke to keep running.

If none of this works, give it a compression test."
