"I have a Mercruiser MR470 with alpha outdrive. The Skeg (Lower leg half) is corroded and will need replacing soon. I dont really want to buy a new one and have been told that the lower half (Skeg) on all alpha unit are the same and I will just need to refit the new Skeg with my drive parts, gearing etc?? Does anyone know if this is true??

"There is a part that slips over the remaining skeg. I have the chrome one with the little skid plate at the tip. 7 years no problem, looks good. No removing the lower unit. 2 screws hold it on."

Problem is its not the fin thats the problem with corrosion its further up the leg near the water inlet. Still thanks again for you help.
