"This one's got me, and I NEED HELP! A Friend brings in his boat(1999 volvo 4.3L) and says starters acting up.I take it off and find nothing wrong so I reinstalled it and start the engine. Everythings fine until I rev the engine up.Thats when I hear the starter engage the flywheel on its own! Now I know the real problem but I don't know the cause. The system has a starter relay that goes through the fuel pump relay so I replaced both, unhooked the yellow/red crank wire off the starter and hooked up my remote crank button. Hooked up test light to the yellow/red crank wire to starter and unpluged crank relay-no start. I then plugged crank relay in and unplugged fuel pump relay, started motor and at idle,no voltage to crank wire at starter. The moment I Rev engine up voltage is present to crank wire. This acts like voltage from alternator, to feed fuel pump, is going back to starter! This is driving me crazy! Bad alternator? HELP ANYONE!"
