Worn Clutch Dog and reverse gear

I have an old 100 hp evenrude

I have an old 100 hp evenrude that the reverse gear and clutch dog lobes are rounded off. I have done metal work before. Anyone ever tried to re-machine the rounded off part to make it a true right angle? Just a thought...

I have looked into this very thing before, and found that if you have to pay a competent machinist to grind these gears properly, you might as well buy new gears. If you have a friend who might do the job as a favor, it might be a good idea to give it a try.
