"1988 4.3L cobra. ~450hours on the motor, recently replaced plugs, fuel filter, upgraded to pertronix electronic ignition, new oil & filter...

When the engine is cold, it fires right up. However, sometimes when I'm out on the water running around, and then kill the engine it's hard to restart. It cranks and cranks, but nothing. I have to put the throttle to full and crank it for ~10 seconds (or more) to even get it to fire. After it starts to fire, it starts up and is fine.

Any ideas what would cause this?"

Sounds like fuel percolating in the carb from heat. Try letting it idle for a few minutes to cool down while cracking the engine hatch to let the heat out.

Could also be a bad needle and seat in the carb. This will allow the fuel under pressure to bleed into the carb while it sits. Sounds like you're having to go into clear flood mode. Get a flash light and after running for a while shut off and look down the carb throats. Dripping fuel is as jeff said or bad seat.
