"Reelmates..... There should b

"Reelmates..... There should be a plate on the transom bracket that clamps to the boat, or on the front of the swivel bracket (front between those transom brackets) with the model number. It is the model number that will define the year and hp of the engine. Get that to us if possible.

However, since that engine does have the dual hose setup, that makes it easy to pinpoint due to the fact the OMC (back then) made the 15hp for only one (1) year..... 1956 which would be your engine.

" No ser#, found the two small holes were it use to be. Ok on the 56 id, now on the oil and mixture, do I use TCW 3 reg. 2 stroke oil or some 30 W,also what about the mix 1/2pt to one gal, wouldn't that be more like 25-1 mix????? thanks "

"Reelmates.... That 25/1 or 24

"Reelmates.... That 25/1 or 24/1 mixture was the standard before the 50/1 mixture came into being. You are safe to use the 50/1 mixture (1 pint of 50/1 oil to 6 gallons of gas) in that engine. Pertaining to the model number. Look on the powerhead for a quarter size core plug which might have the model number on it (looks like a small freeze out plug).

" Hi Reelmates,
Your motor

" Hi Reelmates,
Your motor isn't a 15hp after all. The freeze plug numbers indicate it is a 1957 7.5hp. Do not run that motor at 50:1 or you'll have a pile of scrap aluminum in short order! It has bronze bearings and they need the extra oil. Run it at 24:1, using good TCW-3 rated outboard oil and good gas.
Keep an eye on your water flow, and replace the water pump impeller if you're uncertain of the motor's maintenance history. Most of the basic tune-up parts are still readily available through an OMC dealer or NAPA.
