If the pump is pumping backwar

If the pump is pumping backwards it's because the motor is running backwards. Are you sure you're not seeing exhaust bubbles?

Perhaps it is exhaust bubbles I am seeing? But why would I not receive water out of the upper water tube yet?"

"Pull the lower unit and attatch a hose to the water tube. Turn on the water and see if there is good flow. You can feel the cool water flowing through the engine, and you can even start it and see if it cools normally.

"Also, with the LU off, you can motor the drive shaft with a 3/8 drill (and some ingenuity). The water should shoot out of the water tube to the head. If not, there's something wrong.
