I have the opportunity to buy

I have the opportunity to buy a boat at a local thrift store that has a 1975 70 hp Evinrude. The manager said he was told by the shop that donated it that the cylinders have 60-90-120 psi compression.

It needs a powerpack to crank and run. What are the best and worst case scenarios I likely face if I take a chance and buy it? The flywheel turns smoothly and there is significant resistance as the pistons near TDC.

"Bill.... That compression reading just about tells the story as to why it was donated. The 60 lb difference indicates that the powerhead has blown. I have seen rebuild jobs on a engine such as that have run as low as $950 and as high as $1800. Before buying it, I'd suggest that you remove the cylinder head and give it a quick inspection.
