I have 1989 454 Crussaders &#4

I have 1989 454 Crussaders (350HP)with about 900 hours on them. A friend of mine is telling me to switch to a full synthetic oil- he's an ex GM guy that has done oil studies and swears by synthetics. Is this recommended? If so what weight?

"That's mythology as far as I'm concerned. Always use the viscosity recommended by the engine manufacturer. Be sure the API rating is API-SM. If you are concerned about engine longevity, change the oil more often."

"I use 25-50 valvoline racing oil in my 89 454's and have for over a year (10 plus oil changes) based upon recommendation on my mechanic who is very familiar with Crusaders. My application (slow trolling and then hi speed running) requires the mix weight blend, which is mostly synthetic.

Not a problem.."
