I have a Wards Sea King 6hp motor. I have it running but I cannot see where the outlet for the water is. Is it the opening on the shaft below the engine housing?

The opening on the exhaust tower is an exhaust relief port. It's purpose is to allow exhaust to escape when the motor is at idle or in reverse and doesn't have enough oomph to push the exhaust out the lower port.

Although it's not meant as a water exit, you will usually get a fine spray as water on it's way to the lower port gets mixed in with exhaust.

Most, if not all 6hp motors did not have a water telltale - you have to touch your fingers quickly on the cylinder head - if it feels like they will burn, you have an overheat condition."
