"As I read through the posts I have already learned alot. Very cool site.

I have a question about my old 1960 14' Valco boat. The plate in the back says the transon will take up to a 20hp motor. Is that recomended being that my boat is 46 years old? Or just stick with the 10hp I have?

Thanks,
Mike"

"What is the construction of your boat? What is the history of your boat?

As long as the boat has been well cared for and the transom has not been compromised, then you will be fine. If it is a wood boat and/or a wood transom, then you will have to make sure that the transom is in good shape. Same thing goes for a fiberglass boat although it is less likely to have a problem. The core of the transom is wood and constant leaking or submersion will have harmed it."
