Engine knock

I know I have seen a post on this issue before but can't seem to find it. My 2001 Tahoe has the four cylinder chevy engine that has a pinging or knocking noise at idle. More noticable when first starting up but when the rpm's are upped even just a small amount you can't hear it any more. Is this normal for the chevy engine? Had the four cylinder ford in our old boat and did not have this noise.

It could be a cold start oil starvation knock. Change the oil and filter; use a Merc. filter. Add 1/2 can of SEAFOAM to the oil and the rest to the fuel tank. Fill up w/Chevron or Shell 89 or higher octane and see if that cures it. Both of those fuels reduce carbon buildup. Have you changed the plugs lately and checked the timing?
