I have 1979 25hp johnson it trys to jump out of gear at any speed if i hold it in gear or put ro pe it dont do it is thare adjustment for this. thank you

"pull the small plate off the side of the exhaust hsng....in there,..u will see a brass conn,connecting the upper and lower shift rods..move shifter,while observing the rod movement,..any looseness,or play,between the two indicates that screws are loose,stripped,etc...rods must move exactly together...if that area is ok...the usual problem,is a worn out cluth dog,and forward gear."
