Need Help with my Mariner 40hp All the way from down under Australia

"Hey All -

just quickly - I have attached a picture not of mine, but the same motor that I have.I have the 40E Mariner 40hp Motor. The part that is circled in red - this part of my motor looks to of started being eaten away and coming apart where one of the bolts are. I can see some sort of gasket behind it.

Now is this a easily replaceble and obtainable part ?

"It's a little tough from that angle to see exactly what you have circled, but, assuming you do not mean the head itself, at that location you should have the thermostat cover.

It will be held on by 4 bolts, does have a gasket under the cover and then under that is the thermostat.

The cover is still available from any Merc dealer for under 20 bucks. The gasket is discontinued, but you can fashion your own with a "make your own gasket kit" from any auto supply place...."

Hey mate - thanks heaps for the response.
I believe its the bolt in the picture down the very bottom which extends out the most if that makes sense. ill have to get a better pic
