"I have a 1997 75hp mariner outboard 2 stroke. When bought the dealer said that all he had to do was change out the reeds and it would become a 90hp is this true or a bunch of bull?

The 75 and 90 did share a powerhead, and yes the reeds are slightly different, but so are the 3 carbs hangin' on the front too

Plus a couple other parts that don't immediately come to mind.

Your 75 has the same low end torque band as the 90. At the very top end the 90 is only a couple (and I do mean maybe 2) more mph faster. And your 75 burns less gas than the 90 does "all the time".
