hello i tore my motor down yes

hello i tore my motor down yesterday to bore out cylinders and go oversize on pistons a/c light scoreing on 2 cyls' i noticed a connecting rod cap is discolored black should i replace that rod and cap or just put the new bearings on it the crank is good

"they take on a slight ,black

"they take on a slight ,black discoloration, and that is normal,...a severe, blued overheat would be evident as well as bearing overheat damage in the bearing area,...the rod itself,is just along for the ride, its the bearing race areas that are critical."

thank you for your reply its j

thank you for your reply its just a soot black color not heat blue. i will finish the motor re- build with new pistons and bearings

another question on my re-buil

another question on my re-build project 90 hp johnson can any machine shop bore the jugs out or does it have to be one that just does outboards because the outboard machine charges alot more than the regular automotive machine shops

OMC state a standard bore size

OMC state a standard bore size then you add what ever oversize you have chosen plus 0.020" or 0.030"

Some auto shops bore to the size of the pist which is not correct.

Also the conrod caps need to be aligned when you assemble them
