"I have a 1997 Nissan NS40D and have just started having problems with the tachometer. First it was intermittent but now as soon as I start it the tach goes to 7000 rpm's with the engine idling. I checked charging system and it's charging at 13.5 volts. Is the tach bad or could it be something else.

"I checked the wires with the multi-meter and they checked out good (yellow and white). Would you get any other issues if the trigger coils were bad, the engine starts and runs great? I myself was thinking it was probably the tach being 12 years old.
