"We are discussing the Engine Circ pump.... correct?

You do not mention whether this engine is Raw Water cooled, or has a Closed Cooling system.
An automotive pump will work just fine if you have the closed system. It will NOT know no difference.

If "raw water cooled", then you must stay with the Marine unit.

"Try replacding the seal on the raw water pump first , remove the impellar and housing remove the 2 fan belts take out the 3 allen head bolts from the balancer and pull the pulley assembley and replace the seal on the center of this assembley about $8 bucks at the dealer. I just did this and not real hard to do."

"OK, now understood.
These are referred to as "Sea Water" or "raw water" pumps.
I was not sure because the previous links lead us to both "Engine Circulating" pumps and "S/W" or "R/W" Pumps.
Got cha now! Thanks.

FYI, since yours leaked, you may want to do new bearings in it.... or at least pick the seals from them and re-pack them with new grease. Some bearings allow for this if you are careful. "
