"I have a 1974 Bayliner with a 6 cylinder inline volvo engine I hear AQ 170 and B30. Is the engine the AQ 170 and the outdrive a B30 or the other way around. Does anyone knows how the outdrive lock in place when the boat is running. I just bought this boat and the first time I took it to the ocean I notice that it was really hear to control and manuever. I also notice that the outdrive came out of the water when I put it in reverse and was very slow pulling forward. I was told that it has a tilt electric motor, but the motor does not work. I manually tilt the outdrive up and down. It seems to me that the outdrive is not locking in place. Does any one knows how I can lock it in place manually as I was told that I will never find the electric motor for this old engine. Thank you for your help."

I am also having problem removing the old Prop on my AQ170 volvo outdrive. It seems to be frozen. Does any one have any idea who to remove it without damaging the shaft or outdrive housing. I want to install a new Prop as the old one is bend and beat up. Thank you in advance for your advices.

"Julio, regarding the outdrive coming out of the water on reverse, chances are that the reverse pawl is seized and you need to free it, or that the springs 50, 58 and 59 are broken, in which case the pin 51 may also be missing

Check the forum for the words <font color=""ff0000"">reverse</font> <font color=""0000ff"">pawl</font>, as this topic has been discussed many times. In case you need new springs, they are easy to obtain (check the Sierra number in following link).

You can also find replacement motors for the tilt mechanism, but they are not cheap.

However, a new tilt motor will not help if the tilt mechanism worm gear ir ruined. If this is the case, check on eBay, these units come up for sale quite often.

Regarding the prop, if it is badly seized you may need to use heat (be careful iif you do) or preferably zip cut it. Do a search in the forum, as this has also been discussed several times."
