hi i have a old yamaha 20hp 2

hi i have a old yamaha 20hp 2 stroke i run it on the prescibed 100/1 it is a bit of a hassle as the rest of my outboards are 50/1 will this outboard run on 50/1 or do i need to keep it as is. it runs brilliantly on the 100/1

"Ian, you can run it at 50:1 with no worries of damaging the engine. Too much oil is ok - a little smokey maybe, but no worries.

You will find however, that the spark plugs foul alot quicker and you may notice crud build-up (excess carbon) on the pistons (if you shine a light through the sparkplug hole).

I have a 100:1 Evinrude, which I have always run at 50:1 (for the same reason you note, plus a recommendation from OMC to run at 50:1 under certain conditions) - it's 22 years old and no ill effects.

I just replace the plugs once a season and every spring, run a can of "powertune" (a Merc de-carb product) through the motor and all is well."
