"Can I find any information about a Johnson 225 by its serial number only? I cannot find a model number anywhere, only the serial number stamped on the back. I believe the 225's didn't come out until 1986 and believe the motor to be late 80's. Any help would be greatly appreciated!"

"Lee, there should be welsh plug (silver disk the size of a quarter) on the motor with the model number stamped in it.

If I'm remembering correctly it will be smack in between the two cylinder heads (kinda draw a line between the second spark plug in each bank), about half way down the (exhaust cover) looking at the back of the motor."

"Thanks, that is where I found the seriel number, but nothing that resembled the model number. I think that I have found out the year though through extensive searching of pictures of outboards on the internet. Thanks again though!"
