    Default "What up fellas. I have a 1980

    "What up fellas. I have a 1980 Mercruiser 470 I/O. Had to replace trim cylinders. What type of fluid should i use? Someone told me to use ATF fluid, but manual says: 10w/30 or 10w/40."

    It;s a pretty simple Hyd. system,...
    It'll work with Any light oil...

    ATF is what I use,... Motor oil will also work,..
    It's your choice..."
    Any Grease is Better,... Than No grease at All....

    I agree with bondo i chose to use ATF cause it will keep clean and is good for the seals

    Default Bondo et al: After 21 years

    Bondo et al:

    After 21 years is there a problem if I just empty the reservior to switch from PS/trim oil to ATF? Or do I need to flush the lines and cylinders? Which ATF?
    Fix minor things (replace wear items for preventative maintenance.) that cause major problems before they break.

    All of these oils will mix Just Fine...

    I've actually got Equipment Hyd. oil in mine right now...
    Only because that's what I had close by...
    Btw,...
    Any AFT will do...Cheaper the Better..."
