Carbon Build Up

"I removed the cylinder head o

"I removed the cylinder head on my 1986 evinrude 200 and noticed the top of the pistons had a black resin, over the majority of the top. I try wiping my finger over it and it's stuck on there. Is this just normal carbon build up? I figure I should use sea foam... Any thoughts?... Ideas?"
 
"Yes, that is carbon. Clean it

"Yes, that is carbon. Clean it off before you reassemble then do a de-carb. Sea Foam is an excellent choice."
 
How should i go about cleaning

How should i go about cleaning it? Would a dremel tool with a polishing pad be ok? and what if some of the carbon i clean off falls in the cylinder?

it will have some build up because it burns oils in the gas.......so if you have some pics you may save yourself some frustration.

heres how to run a decarb

I dont have any pictures(its 7:00pm at night here in missouri) but i do know i have excessive carbon build up. Thank you all

those pistons have a specific design.........and you dont want to change that in any way---fuel intake and exhaust reasons........not to mention any imperfections will attract carbon deposits."
