b97 200 EFI clunks when put in gear

"When I shift into forward gear and step on the gas the motor clunks 2 or 3 times then takes off. Is this an adjustment or something wrong with the lowewr unit? Thanks in advance, Dave"
 
"Make sure the cables are in a

"Make sure the cables are in adjustment. Put the shifter fully ahead in gear then check that where the cables connect at the motor that they have fully engaged as well. If there is no adjustment issue, I would suspect you have a gearcase in need of attention. Pull the bottom drain plug and check for metal filings on it (magnatized) and for milky coloured gear oil."
