Pulling the boat out last year

Pulling the boat out last year (nevermind how this happened I'll just get angry) the rod that goes through the hull to the top of the outdrive broke off at the nut (top of outdrive. Mechanic says you can't redrill and tap in same spot because the old one was stainless steel. He's thinking he's gonna drill in a different spot and add an extention to my steering rod. Is that the way to do it? How will this affect the steering?

That seems like it puts great

That seems like it puts great liabilty on the mechanic unless you no them real well also if it fails you would pay them for trying Its hard to bite the bullet sometimes Id replace it...I hate bullet biting but that seems To always be the path my boat steers me..good luck be safe
