"So if i tie into either the green or the red coming out then one of those should be a tach signal? I tried the tach deal a long time ago but could not find a signal wire at the keyswitch, so im wondering if i tie in here if that will work?"

"Looking at my manual, there should be two green leads coming from the coil itself and the red will be the "converted" DC power from the rectifier.

If you tap into the green, that should give you the signal you need for the Tach (typical of all Yamaha models)."
