I just got a 17ft NAB

"Hi,

I just got a 17ft NAB Dory with a Mercury Brownband 50HP motor which seems real slow. It's real difficult to get it even close to planing and the for the top quarter of the rev range there seems no difference in speed at all. I think the prop is wrong but I have no idea how to figure out the right one for the boat. The boat hardly does 10 knots which seems very slow, considering the light and flat nature of it.

"there should be numbers on the prop, tell us what pitch and diameter. I would guess it should be about 10.5x13p. Many things affect rpm, compression, spark and fuel. Check all these first before spending any $."
