I have a 1986 mariner 30hp. Th

I have a 1986 mariner 30hp. There seems to be some type of small cover plate (about 1.5" in length) missing from the bottom of the lower end of the motor. It is right above the base of the propeller. Does anyone know what it might be? Directly above the propeller there is a round adjustable plate. Directly in front of that and in front of the gear case is another plate. That is the plate that is missing.

"I'm just taking a guess here but look at this link, the round adjustable plate you mention sounds like the trim tab (does yours have a fin like item 45?) It's possible item 44 is what your talking about, seems to be an inlet screen?
