    Default I have a 1980 Johnson 115 yest

    I have a 1980 Johnson 115 yesterday I noticed oil dripping out of a small hole just above the lower unit water usually comes out of this hole when I have the muffs on and engine running in my driveway where is this oil coming from any help ???

    "In total agreement with Mort as this is usually the case. However, should the substance actually be gearcase oil, the leak is usually due to faulty seals within the bearing/seal housing located just under the water pump plate, or at the shift rod "O" Ring.

    Default I did not notice oil last seas

    I did not notice oil last season would changing plugs affect the oil burning off? I had gapless plugs last year but had take off power problems a johnson dealer looked up the plugs and said gapped plugs would be better??

    "Gapless (Surface Gap) plugs work fine in some engines, however the gapped plugs usually result in improved all around performance.

    In your case, those gapped plugs should be Champion QL77JC4 plugs, gapped at .040 .
