I just bought a 1995 Lowe 17&#

I just bought a 1995 Lowe 17' aluminum bass boat equipped with a 1995 Evinrude 70HP engine. It's my first boat. The engine runs flawlessly but the previous owner said that it ran up to 45 mph with 1 person in the boat. I can't get it to go faster than 36 mph @ 5200 RPM.

1) Can I go higher RPMs? What is "redline"?

2) I'm mixing my fuel at 50:1. Should it be different?

Thanks

"1) You should be able to

"1) You should be able to hit 5800. Operating RPMs should be in your owners manual. If not, contact your dealer. The previous owner can say whatever they like to sell a boat. In my experience, 45 mph with a 70 is unlikely. Increasing your RPMs to 5800 is a 10% uptick, so expect no more than 40, which in itself is a stretch.
2) Yes, mix at 50:1. If your motor or tank have a decal that says 100:1, paint over it -- OMC retracted their 100:1 recommendation"
