"I have just purchased a 1955 25hp johnson model #RDE-17C. where is the best place to obtain parts and manuals.
This is my first outboard and would appreciate any help, usual problems, what to watch for on this model and special concerns about repairing.

Usual problems? I used to run an RDE-17 on an 8ft hyrdo with a 17pitch prop - quite a wild ride. An RD-15 was standby in case of trouble. The only bugbear I've had with the RD-series is cracked coils.

If you don't know the history of the motor, the first thing you want to do is replace the impeller. The Sierra catalog, available at Napa and many marine dealers can help with service parts."
