"I am looking for parts & information for an old MD 17. One of my customers has this engine in his boat. It is a salt water cooled model with an aftermarket heat exchanger conversion to fresh water cooling. The engine runs fine with the exception of exhausting blue smoke & residual deisel fuel. I think that it may be that the thermostat is the original for salt water cooling which opens at 140 degrees. Is there a thermostat which opens at 180 degrees to replace the original that will allow the engine to run a litter warmer & burn this residual fuel & hopefully eliminate or reduce the blue smoke?
