"Need Advice Please: I have a 1999 Regal 2100LSR with a Volvo Penta 5.0 GL. The lower outdrive housing got a hole in it and let in water and is apparently ruined. What should I do? The dealer where it was bought is talking $2,000 or more to repair. Thanks"

"If there is a hole in the lower unit, have it replaced! not welded and rebuild. Search on e-bay or other places for replacement/rebuild units, but which unit do You need:280/290/SX/DP? You have to be more specific."

Thanks for your quick reply. It must the SX - there is an emblem on it.
I did a quick check on Ebay but did not see one however I have not checked thoroughly yet.

I checked further. The outdriv

I checked further. The outdrive is an SX with a 1.66 gear ratio. Should I just be looking for a rebuilt one on sites like Ebay? Should I also replace the upper part? Any further advice? I just don't have much experience in this area.

"You just have to search around for the lower unit. If it has been water in the drive, be sure You get it out and in some way have fresh oil in the drive while waiting to prevent corrosion dammages."
