what the best way to get a bro

what the best way to get a broke bolt out of a head? i have 3 i need to get out that broke when pulling off the head to replace the head gasket.

Yes it has some sticking out on all 3 of them but thay or stuck real good. would heat work or can that be done there?

"if they were broken off inside then you would have a nasty job of drilling them out or getting a machine shop to do the job for you--
if there is enough of the bolt protruding so that you can get a grip on it with a tool, than you may be ok--heat is the trick--"

If there is enough to grab with a vise-grip, you could try filing the bolt a bit on opposite sides, so that there are two flat surfaces for the vise-grip to bite on. Use lots of heat.

If this is not possible, the the only course is to cut the bolts even with the block, punch an indentation in the center of the bolt, and drill it out carefully. Use cobalt drill bits, and start with a 1/8 inch bit. Increase to 3/16, 1/4, etc.

After this is done, you will need a heli-coil kit of the proper size to install an insert which will accept the original fastening.
