I'm new here and new to outboard motor repair. I've had a 1985 ML DT9.9 for a year now, and I love it.

I've only had one minor issue...If I'm at idle and give it full throttle the motor seems hesitate before it gets up to high RPMs. By hesitate, I mean it sometimes takes up to 20 seconds or so before the RPMs stabilize, sometimes shorter. I thought the plugs might need cleaning and they weren't too bad, for the amount of idling I do. They did have TWICE the gap they should have, so I replaced them. The new plugs (properly gapped) did not improve the problem though. Could this have something to do with the fuel filter? I have no idea, but I'd like to do the repair over the winter, as I'm going to change the water pump anyway.
