"I have a 1996 Mercury 225 Black Max. Yesterday, while running normally @ 4200 rpm, the engine shut down. Blam. No miss firing, just like you turned the key off. I tried to re-start, with no sign of firing. After switching the key off, then back on, the motor started normally, like nothing had happened. We continued on. This happened twice more during the day. I noticed that if I ran the motor @ 3800 rpm or lower, the problem didn't occur. Also, I noticed a leak on my primer bulb, most likely caused by the ethanol in the fuel. This seemed to me to be an electrical event. Is there a computer on this motor that would record fault codes? Is there a safety feature that is shutting dowwn the motor, caused by the fuel leak?"
