"I just installed a bronze "T" and a hose bib valve above the hull shut off. For me, the risk of plastic below the waterline not worth the convenience factor. BTW... I never hook up the fresh water hose to the flusher valve directly. I have a short hose that I stick in a 5 gal pail, with the supply hose also in the pail. I don't start the engine until the bucket starts to overflow BTW...It is unlikely that a supply hose can keep up with the water flow requirements of larger engines even at idle. With the pickup and source hoses both in a bucket, at least I can monitor whats going on."

Funny this came up! I have a perko setup with a plastic T and a hose that goes through transome to a male hose hose fitting. I have concerns about the plastic t sucking air and sending my temp gauge flukey. I love the brass t and bucket idea. I have never used the perko for the fear of the water flow. Great tips. Thank you
