Fellows - Any one have a good

Fellows - Any one have a good technique for easy removal of the the brass shift rod bushing (Lower Unit) so I can replace the o-ring.

"When I did my 1961 5.5Hp John

"When I did my 1961 5.5Hp Johnson, which I think may be the same size as yours, I used a 5/16" 20NC tap and made about 3 or 4 threads. I then used a 5/16" bolt and screwed it into the thread. At this point you can either pull it out with a wrench or use a 1/4" rod and tap it out from the underside by banging out the bolt.

All this has to be done with the gear case apart, of course."

Good Evening fellows I removed

Good Evening fellows I removed the old o-ring without removing the bushing per some good advise. Any ideas how insert the new o-ring? It appears that it will not fit or it will get stuck side-ways or damaged.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!
