"Can you replace an Alpha I Gen I with a Pre Alpha or a Alpha I Gen II? Or, can you mix match uppers and lowers of GenI and Gen II and Pre Aplha?"

"I took the Stern Drive off of

"I took the Stern Drive off of a 1989 Sylvan Speed boat. I put it on a 1988 Chris Craft, I have to replace the stern drive on the Sylvan. Will a Pre Alpha or an Alpha I Gen II bolt up to a Alpha I Gen I bellhousing and work properly?"
 
no to the Gen II
yes to Alpha

no to the Gen II
yes to Alpha 1 obviously
and Maybe to pre-alpha - it will work if it has the longer driveshaft- there were 2 different lengths and the shorter one may not engage the engine coupler properly
