"My boat has a fly bridge and two sets of instruments. It has a TAMD41p engine. When I bought it, the surveyor pointed out that the upper temperature gauge read about 15 degrees higher than the lower gauge and the lower gauge agreed with his IR thermometer.

Are there two sending units or are both gauges connected to the same sending unit? Where is the sending unit or units?

If there is only one sending unit, I would assume the gauge is defective and cannot be repaired. Where can I get a replacement?"

"The temp instrument is basically an ohm-meter. The hotter the engine, greater resistance: higher temp indication. As for different readings: The longer the cables, the bigger resistance: the higher temp reading.
You may not get much difference by changing instrument.
Suggest You do a cross-change to check."

"Well if a higher resistance means a higher temp reading, I suppose it could be corrosion on the connector also. Thanks for the info, I'll check the wiring and swap the gauges if it's not the wiring."
