I have a 1996 20hp merc and for some reason when I go to accelerate it feels like it slips into neutral. Reverse works fine. I changed the lower end gear oil and there were no metal shavings. I attempted to remove the lower unit but it only came down about 1 1/2 inches (i didn't want to force anything) Any suggestions??
