"One of my 2 engines sticks at 2000rpm after running it for any length of time. It IS NOT a cable issue. I took the cover off the engine and checked the spring that is supposed to bring it back into position, looks fine. I lubed the assembly. The only way to get it to go back under 1000 rpms is to go full throttle and back to neutral in one quick move, or with the top off of it at the dock I can physically pull down on the linkage and it drops under 1000rpm. The idle speed is perfect, and the adjustment for the idle is not even touching metal. It does not stay revved high, it just does not drop down below 1000rpm without a wide swing of the throttle. It happens out of gear too. I can have it at the dock and have it out of gear and go up to 2000rpm and it will not come back down on it's own. Help!!"
