"pIcked up a 2hp eska for free

"pIcked up a 2hp eska for free but wont run on its own. It starts fine but dies right away. I started on the card and noticed it has a smalll fuel pump. Then I saw the needle on the float has a spring on top of it? It looks like a regular Tilotson carb except for these 2 features. Can I use a regular Tilotson needle without the spring or can I by pass the fuel pump. It is gravity fed, why do I need the pump?

Problem fixed! I said Tillots

Problem fixed! I said Tillotson but meant Tecumseh. Get a regular needle from your lawnmower dealer and it works fine.
