"Recently purchased a boat with an 85hp chrysler on it. Not sure what year(70's??). It has a breaker point distibutor and type IV ignition. Im sure its not one of the earlier models. I couldnt get it to start thought there was no fire but took it to a marine shop to give it a good look over and they said all cylinders are firing. Its a project boat so I am planning doing most of the work myslef. He also said the points needed to be replaced. After getting it back I tried again and nothing. They said everything else looked fine, just needs new points. Any ideas?? thanks"

Try new points and then static

Try new points and then static time the ignition and give the carbs a good clean and re-set all the linkages. Make sure you have at least a 550 cca battery attached and that the battery leads are not too long for their thickness as it may not be spinning fast enough.
