I am contemplating adding a kicker motor to my 19 foot center console. Due to the way the boat is built it would be a platform mount. My question is how large (or small) a motor would be sufficient as an auxilliary for a boat this size???"

Is it an emergency motor? If so, you can go down to the 2 or 3.5 hp range.

Is it for trolling? Go for 5hp and above.

Used for going slowly from A to B and saving fuel on the big engine? Go for 9.9/10hp.

All of the above are opinions, not necessarily published guidelines. Me, I have a 1.5 on my 16ft.

As a rule, smaller kickers make the boat harder to manoeuver, larger ones add unnecessary weight."
