1987 20 HP Johnson kill switch

"The kill switch on the tiller

"The kill switch on the tiller has a 'safety swicth' mounted in tandem to the kill switch. So... removing the clip kills the engine, as does pressing the button. The outboard button is broken, new part = $100. Any ideas on how to configure the button to use it while I save up for a new one ? Can the return spring be removed temporarily ?
Any help or diagrams would be appreciated.

"I don't know if it would be possible, but depending on how many wires are coming off of that button you could just rewire it like an on/off switch, you would of course have to buy a switch though. I'm not positive on this though."
