"I just bought an older nissan 2-stroke that's slipping in F. Reverse works fine. I'm sure it's in the lower unit gear housing. So 3 questions.
1. How do I get the housing off and is it difficult?
2. Is it possible, difficult to repair the lower unit?
3. What's a probable cause? Worn shaft? Worn Forward gear?

Not sure where to start here. Any advice is helpful. Thanks!"

"Go no further...You may have

"Go no further...You may have a slipping propeller hub. The prop is made up of three seperate pieces that are melded together. If they break loose from each other you will get a sudden RPM increase at certain speeds as it slips on itself. Look at the prop and take a black marker and put a line on it from the hub out to the edge, run the engine and then check to see if the line has moved. If it has its new prop time. If it has not moved then you will need a service manual for the lower unit."

Hope its a simple fix but mine

Hope its a simple fix but mine is doing kinda the same. It puts around at idol and even a little more but before I can even get at half throttle it starts slipping. catches every few sec but will rev up high as hell!
